As the Chairman Emeritus of the Homeland Security Committee and a lifelong Texan, I am committed to securing America's borders.
After President Biden rescinded Trump-era policies that secured our border, illegal border crossings rose to record highs. Our border agents are now dealing with thousands of crossings each day, increased cartel activity, drug smuggling, and more. Fentanyl-related deaths have also risen to record highs, killing thousands of young Americans.
In the 118th Congress, I joined with my Texas Republican colleagues to introduce a border security plan. Together, we are working to put an end to the border crisis Texans are facing each day. I also voted in support of the Secure the Border Act, which contained my provision to compel the Biden administration to bring back Remain in Mexico, a policy that successfullyworked to keep migrants in Mexico while awaiting their asylum hearings.
I am committed to continuing this work to secure our borders and protect our national security.

Washington, D.C. - Today the House Homeland Security Committee passed H.R. 3548, the Border Security For America Act, by a vote of 18-12. Introduced by Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), and with 70 cosponsors, the landmark legislation will better protect our homeland by strengthening the security of our borders and ports of entry.
Washington, D.C. - Securing our borders is first and foremost a national security issue. Today, Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) announced the House Homeland Security Committee will mark up the Border Security For America Act next week.
Texans know it is long past time to secure our borders. Failed policies of the past have allowed millions of illegal immigrants, traffickers, and violent criminals to gain access to our great state and ultimately the United States. This has left Americans – and Texans in particular – vulnerable to the types of tragedies that we have become increasingly familiar with, such as the murder of Kate Steinle, a young woman gunned down by an undocumented immigrant who illegally entered the U.S. on five separate occasions.
