Congressman Michael McCaul huddled with Katy and local officials regarding a possible new reservoir to be built near Katy.

McCaul said early projects for the reservoir are projected in the $550-600 million range but added that is a project that was planned 1940 but was aborted due to money issues.

McCaul believes the project can be completed this time and when finished should help curb flooding issues in the area.

Families struggling with childhood cancer could soon have more options. That's after President Trump signed the RACE for Children Act, a new law that allows drugs that fight cancer for adults to be tested and regulated to fight childhood cancer. The law was sponsored by Central Texas Republican Congressman Michael McCaul, R-Austin.

It's not a normal day at Twin Creeks Country Club in Cedar Park. Yes, the golfing is there but rarely has there been such a cause behind it.

Congress so far this session has passed 55 bills that have been signed into law including dozens with bipartisan support, from sanctioning North Korea to reauthorizing the FDA, allowing the agency to continue to collect outside funding for medical research and offer more hope to children with cancer.

Among the 28 bills passed with bipartisan support are the cancer-related RACE for Children Act and the Veterans Education Aid measure, which was pased without a single "no" vote.

A new law, introduced by U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Austin, and a group of bipartisan lawmakers, could make it easier for children with cancer to battle the disease with the help of adult cancer drugs.

The Research to Accelerate Cures and Equity for Children Act – or RACE for Children Act – gives the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authority to require that adult cancer drugs be studied for safety and effectiveness in children battling the disease. President Donald Trump signed the legislation Friday.

Rep. Michael McCaul has submitted bipartisan legislation to provide border sheriffs and other local law enforcement agencies along the northern and southern borders $2.5 billion in federal assistance over five years.

If approved by Congress and signed into law by President Obama, the measure would add $500 million-a-year to Operation Stonegarden, a Department of Homeland Security program that currently spends $60 million-a-year to help state, county and local law enforcement agencies.

Friends say Andrea Sloan would have loved to attend a summit this weekend in Washington, D.C., that will focus on research for childhood cancer and expanded access to experimental drugs for all cancer patients. Sloan, 45, passed away earlier this year after a fight to gain access to an experimental drug to treat her ovarian cancer through a process called compassionate use. She was eventually granted access to a different drug made by a different company, but by then, her cancer had progressed too far.

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Sanofi SA are spending $67.5 million on a novel bet they hope will help them outflank Amgen Inc. in the race to get a new class of cholesterol drugs to the market. The companies are paying the money to acquire a special voucher held by BioMarin Pharmaceuticals Inc. in a bid to hasten regulatory review of their drug alirocumab, one of an emerging group of medicines that lower cholesterol by targeting a gene known as PCSK9.
