American leadership on the global stage is critical. At the beginning of the 118th Congress, I became the first Texan to ever chair the Foreign Affairs Committee, which dates all the way back to the Continental Congress. This committee is responsible for oversight of State Department policy and promoting a responsible legislative agenda that bolsters international engagement with our allies, counters the aggressive policies of our adversaries, and advances the common interests of nations in defense of stability and democracy around the globe.
I look forward to using this position to help secure our border, combat the malign influence of the Chinese Communist Party, and hold the Biden administration accountable for its foreign policy blunders — especially the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Every year, fins from as many as 73 million sharks end up at markets around the world.
In many cultures shark fin is considered a delicacy. Often used in soup, it can sell for as much as $500 per pound.
This has led to overfishing and grisly shark-finning practices, in which finless sharks – unable to move or breathe – are dumped back in the ocean to die. Entire populations have been decimated. Many species are on the brink of extinction.
