According to the latest agricultural census, the average age of the American farmer is 58 years old, and it is trending upwards. Meanwhile, there are more mouths to feed and people to clothe than ever, and farming and ranching remain challenging – and too often thankless – work.
Politicians on both sides of the aisle have spent a lot of time paying lip service to our nation's entrepreneurs. On one hand, we tell them they are "the cornerstone of our communities," then on the other we promulgate regulations that stifle competitiveness and innovation rather than unleash it.
For the first time, we are hearing our president say "radical Islamist terrorism." President Trump uttered these words loud and clear during his inaugural speech on January 20, 2017 and he will treat the fight for what it is – a war. Without sugar-coating, his speech marked the end of "leading from behind" and the beginning of "America first."
Last year I had the privilege of meeting a brave young boy from Austin, Rex Ryan. I met this tenacious 4-year-old at Dell Children's Hospital during his clinical trial for the first FDA-approved childhood cancer drug in over two decades, Unituxin.
After six wonderful weeks traveling from Austin to Houston, Congress is back to business and ready to get things done. This month I am introducing my new monthly column.
