Statement on Agreement to Reopen the Government

January 25, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Michael T. McCaul (R-TX), the Republican Leader of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the former Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement on today's funding agreement:

Congressman McCaul: "I am pleased that President Trump and Congressional leadership have reached an agreement to reopen our federal government and provide a pathway forward on finally securing our border. Today's agreement is a welcomed sight for 800,000 of our federal employees who have been working without pay or have been furloughed during the partial government shutdown.

"Up until today, Democrats have been unwilling to acknowledge or address the threats that penetrate our porous border and permeate throughout our local communities.

"Moving forward, I hope we are able to build on today's success and move in a positive direction to find common ground. I will continue to work in a bipartisan fashion to ensure we can find a long-term, common-sense solution on government funding that solves the security and humanitarian crisis at our southern border."
