Statement by Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, on today's events in Egypt:

February 11, 2011

“President Mubarak’s resignation is a significant milestone in the Egyptian people’s calls to reform their government. It is important that the Egyptian people work toward an orderly and peaceful transition to a more democratic state and that the international community continue to provide the necessary support for free and fair elections. However, we must also be mindful of extremist elements inside Egypt seeking to manipulate the current situation which might threaten a new, more democratic state. A stable Egypt is essential to the stability of the region and the national security of the United States."
