Statement by Congressman Michael McCaul on passage of the DHS Authorization Bill by the Homeland Security Committee

October 13, 2011

"My priority is to fix the Department of Homeland Security and this authorization bill is a step in the right direction. We know from the hearings in my Oversight Subcommittee as well as reports from contractors and multiple agencies in the federal government that DHS is dysfunctional. Approving this authorization bill sets the department on the right path to turn DHS into a more effective organization. More streamlined and efficient processes, improved contracting guidelines, combined with shifting resources to where they are needed most, will allow DHS to focus more narrowly on its core mission to protect the homeland and at the same time save taxpayers money."
