Rep. McCaul, Sen. Cornyn Urge USPS to Show Transparency, Immediately Fix Mail Delivery Issues Across Texas

February 6, 2024

WASHINGTON – This week, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) and Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) sent a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, expressing deep concerns regarding United States Postal Service issues across Rep. McCaul’s district and the broader Houston area.

“We are writing on behalf of Texas constituents, who have shared multiple accounts regarding a range of issues with the postal service,” the lawmakers wrote.

They continued, “The USPS provides critical services to communities across the nation. It is tasked with delivering vital medication to seniors and veterans, supporting small business transactions, and supplying essential services to rural communities. Our constituents depend on USPS to carry out these services in a timely and efficient manner. When this mission cannot be completed, customer service representatives must be available to address the issue, and the agency must be transparent regarding delays or changes in services.”

Background:

Delays began at the North Houston and Missouri City processing centers in mid-December. Rep. McCaul’s office has since worked on more than 70 casework requests regarding mail delays in order to identify the location of constituents’ mail and speed up deliveries. Rep. McCaul and his office have also been corresponding with government relations representatives at USPS since the issues began in an attempt to gain greater transparency for constituents and ensure these delays never happen again.
