January 10, 2024

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) issued the following statement after a team of researchers announce Texas A&M as a leading institute in developing new technologies for in-space operations.

“I am thrilled the U.S. Space Force has named Texas A&M as one of its Space Strategic Technology Research Institutes. The United States was the first country to land a man on the moon – and it is critical we continue to lead the world in what has now become a space race 2.0,” said Rep. McCaul. “There is no better home for this research and development than Texas A&M. Dr. Ambrose and his team working at the RELLIS campus are on the leading edge of research and development for many of our most challenging threats in space.”

Background:

According to Texas A&M, “The Texas A&M University System is one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation, with a budget of $7.8 billion. Through a statewide network of 11 universities, a comprehensive health science center, eight state agencies, and the RELLIS Campus, the Texas A&M System educates more than 153,000 students and makes more than 23 million additional educational contacts through service and outreach programs each year. System-wide, research and development expenditures exceed $1 billion and help drive the state’s economy.”
