McCaul Votes for National Defense Authorization Act to Support Troops, Strengthen U.S. Military Might

December 14, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) — chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee — released the following statement after voting for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024.

“Our servicemembers and their families deserve the very best our nation can offer, and this year’s NDAA takes crucial steps to honor and provide for these heroes. It also works to keep liberal ideology from infiltrating our military, bolster our nuclear stockpiles, and secure our last line of defense — the southern border. I’m proud to support this bill to restore the American military might needed to defend our nation and the free world.”

Rep. McCaul secured the inclusion of key bipartisan provisions in the FY24 NDAA that will streamline the presidential permitting process for building key gateway bridges between Texas and Mexico.

“Three years into President Biden’s tenure, Americans continue to suffer under the weight of inflation and a struggling economy. This expansion of critical infrastructure will strengthen international commerce, lowering the cost of goods for American families. As a Texan and the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, I’m proud to have secured this provision, which will bring economic growth in my home state and far beyond.” – Rep. McCaul

Rep. McCaul was also pleased to see the inclusion of language that will strengthen the DoD’s partnerships with academic institutions like Texas A&M, in Rep. McCaul’s district, for hypersonic weapons research and development.

“China and Russia's hypersonic capabilities have advanced to a stunning degree, posing an unacceptable risk to our national security. Thankfully, Texas A&M is a national leader in hypersonics, and I am confident the research conducted there will drive American leadership and help advance these critical capabilities.” – Rep. McCaul

Rep. McCaul also supports many conservative victories within the FY24 NDAA, which:

  • Authorizes a 5.2 percent pay increase for troops, the largest in more than 20 years;
  • Includes a Parents’ Bill of Rights to ensure parents of children in DoD schools have the right to meet with teachers and review curriculum;
  • Protects and reinstates servicemembers who were discharged due to refusal of the COVID-19 vaccine;
  • Supports law enforcement operations at the border and tackles the fentanyl crisis through counterdrug activities;
  • Defends Israel in her time of need;
  • Works to track and prevent CCP espionage; and
  • Bolsters U.S. military readiness by strengthening our defense industrial base.
