McCaul Statement on the Passing of His Father-in Law, Lowry Mays
San Antonio, TX – Congressman Michael McCaul (TX-10) released the following statement on the passing of his father-in-law, Lowry Mays.
"It is with sadness that I announce my father-in-law, Lowry Mays, has passed away. But it is with joy that I honor and celebrate this true maverick and a legend in the state of Texas. For all who know him, he will live on in their hearts. After serving his country honorably in the Air Force, Lowry went on to build Clear Channel Communications from the ground up with his business partner Red McCombs. It would eventually grow to be one of the largest media companies in the country. In 2004, he was inducted in the Radio Hall of Fame.
"While Lowry is most well-known for being a self-made man who truly achieved the American dream against all odds, his philanthropy work is what truly fulfilled him. Lowry was a proud Texas A&M graduate and gave back to the institution he believed in, which contributed so much to his success in life. He served on the Texas A&M of Board of Regents for many years, including as the Chairman from 2003-2005. One of his highest honors was having Texas A&M rename their business school after his family, the Mays Business School. In addition, Lowry and his late wife Peggy's determination to find cures and treatments for cancer led MD Anderson and the UT Health San Antonio Cancer Center to rename their facility as the Mays Cancer Center.
"But to our family, he will be remembered simply as a loving father and grandfather who was larger than life. He was an inspiration and taught us to value family above everything. I will personally miss my buddy and one of my dearest friends. But while we mourn his loss, we are comforted that he will be reunited with his dear wife Peggy, the love of his life."
