McCaul Statement on Dissolution of Venezuelan National Assembly

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the below statement regarding the Venezuelan Supreme Court's decision to dissolve the country's democratically elected National Assembly.

Congressman McCaul: "The recent decision by the Venezuelan Supreme Court to strip the country's National Assembly of its powers is deeply troubling and nothing more than an attempt by President Nicolás Maduro and the ruling United Socialist Party to consolidate power. The United States stands in solidarity with the Venezuelan people and urges our partners in the region to denounce this drastic step towards a dictatorship. This action is neither something the people of Venezuela want nor deserve, and the international community must speak out against it."
