McCaul Statement on DHS-DOJ Report on Terrorist Entry Into the United States

Washington, D.C. – House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) today released a statement in support of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Justice's (DOJ) newly released report, pursuant to Section 11 of Executive Order 13780: Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States, and touted the Committee's work to address gaps and bolster America's defenses against terror.

Chairman McCaul: "This new report provides context and insight into a critical part of the United States' threat landscape. DHS and DOJ have done a thorough review and taken an important step forward in addressing a dynamic issue affecting our security. These findings are further proof that we need to pass legislation expeditiously to strengthen our borders and enforce our existing laws.

"As I have said in the past, the American people have been waiting for their leaders to step up, get the job done, and better protect our country. I believe the Administration has heeded the calls with their continued efforts to address our nation's security and, with the introduction of the Securing America's Future Act, Congress has an opportunity to address these issues head on. I look forward to working with my colleagues to get a reasonable solution to the President's desk as soon as possible."

Last week, the House of Representatives passed four bills directly related to recommendations from the Committee's Task Force on Denying Terrorists Entry to the United States. The Task Force, led by Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), was charged with identifying and introducing recommendations on how to shut down terrorist pathways into the United States.
