BRENHAM, TX – Congressman Michael T. McCaul (R-TX), the Lead Republican on the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Chairman Emeritus on the House Homeland Security Committee, received the National Distinguished Advocacy Award, the most prestigious award presented by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), in recognition of his dedication to the fight against childhood cancer.

Congressman McCaul: It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by the American Cancer Society and one that I do not deserve alone. I founded the Childhood Cancer Caucus to give a voice to the thousands of children battling cancer each year and the survivors who face lifelong health complications. The caucus has advanced meaningful legislation, such as the Creating Hope Act, the RACE for Children Act, and the Childhood Cancer STAR Act to innovate and improve the treatments we provide our children.

“None of our accomplishments would have been possible without all of the advocates and survivors who continue to share their stories and motivate Members to act. I will continue fighting for more advancements in pediatric cancer treatment, so we can create a future where no child has to suffer due to cancer.

Lisa Lacasse, President, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network:Rep. McCaul has continuously established himself as a staunch supporter of cancer-fighting policies. By acting on multiple initiatives in the fight against cancer, Representative McCaul makes cancer a legislative priority and helps to impact the cancer burden for Texans across the state.
