December 8, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Chairman of the Homeland Security Oversight, Investigations and Mangement Subcommittee, launched an investigation into the Department of Homeland Security’s role in Operation Fast andFurious.

In a letter to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director John Morton, Chairman McCaul requested copies of any documentation that would reveal the extent to which ICE personnel were involved in the planning of the operation. It also seeks to conclude whether ICE facilitated the southbound flow of weapons and cash across the United States border into Mexico and into the hands of Mexican drug cartels.

A comprehensive list of the information requested by December 23 is contained in the attached letter.
