McCaul, House Homeland Security Committee Republicans Mark Up Border Security Legislation on Trump's 100th Day in Office

April 29, 2025

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) — chairman emeritus and current vice chair of the House Homeland Security Committee — joined his colleagues in marking up the committee’s budget reconciliation recommendations, which will provide funding for the Department of Homeland Security’s primary border security mission, among other provisions.

"President Trump promised the American people he would put a stop to the Biden administration’s border crisis and secure our homeland — and 100 days into his term, he has absolutely delivered,” said Rep. McCaul. “For years, I've fought to protect Texans from the financial burdens and safety threats posed by an open border, and I am grateful President Trump wasted no time in re-establishing a strong deterrence policy and deporting the violent criminals whom the Biden administration welcomed into our communities. The administration’s success proves we did not need new laws — as Democrats repeatedly claimed last year; we simply needed our laws to be enforced. I’m proud to join my colleagues today in voting to fully fund President Trump's border security agenda and deliver the American people's mandate."

Background:

Over the last 100 days, the Trump administration has effectively secured the border, with illegal border encounters decreasing by 95% from March 2024 to March 2025. The House Committee on Homeland Security today recommended funding the administration’s efforts by providing:

  • $46 billion to construct the border wall, including 701 miles of primary wall and 900 miles of other barriers;
  • $4.1 billion to hire thousands of new agents, including 3,000 new border patrol agents and 5,000 new customs agents;
  • $1 billion to provide new non-intrusive censors for detecting illegal drug trafficking at the border and ports of entry;
  • $5 billion for new and improved Customs and Border Patrol facilities and infrastructure, and much more.

McCaul also joined the Faulkner Focus on Fox News to discuss today’s markup and Trump’s first 100 days in office.
