Video remarks, as delivered:

This March, we are celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Texas Rangers.

An elite group of law enforcement officers, the Rangers are the tip of the spear when it comes to defending the Lone Star State.

They were first established in 1823 to protect the 300 United States residents living in Texas.

Since then, Rangers have stopped the assassination of presidents, responded to riots, and taken out traffickers, drug smugglers, and murderers.

Out of 80 thousand law enforcement officers in Texas, only 170 are Texas Rangers.

They investigate the most serious crimes, protect our borders, combat terrorism, and keep our communities safe from cartels.

At least 124 Rangers have given their lives since 1935, when the Rangers became part of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

We owe them — and all those who continue to serve — our respect and our gratitude.

And remember: “One riot, one Ranger.”

Happy 200th anniversary to our Texas Rangers!
