McCaul Hails Passage of Legislation to Help Texas Small Businesses
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.J. Res. 98. The resolution would nullify the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) final joint employer rule, which was published in October 2023. This rule targeted small business owners in an attempt to dramatically expand labor unions. The rule would deem franchisors (large corporations like McDonalds or 7-11) and their franchisees (small business owners) as “joint employers,” saddling those small business owners with labor union obligations or with liabilities of a company they don’t control.
“Small business owners are already having a hard enough time making ends meet in Joe Biden’s economy — they don’t need more costly regulations and red tape," stated Rep. McCaul. “Expanding the joint employer rule is clearly yet another blatant attempt by the NLRB to swell the scope and power of their best friends — labor unions. I’m proud the House passed this important legislation and will never stop fighting to protect Texas small business owners.”
