McCaul Applauds $1.5 Million Anti-Terrorism Grant Given to City of Austin

February 28, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) released the following statement after receiving news that the City of Austin is being awarded $1.5 million from the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Grant Program, which provides funding to prevent, respond to, and recover from terrorist incidents in high-density, high-threat urban areas.

“As the biggest border state, Texas is on the frontlines of the fight against terrorism, facing new threats every day,” said Rep. McCaul. “It’s vital we take extra steps to protect our cities—especially our state’s capitol. I encourage the City of Austin to maximize the use of these funds and will continue working at the federal level to protect our nation from threats of terrorism both at home and abroad.”

As the chairman emeritus of the Committee on Homeland Security and a champion for anti-terrorism efforts, Rep. McCaul has consistently advocated for the UASI Grant Program on the federal level. In April of 2022, he led a letter to the House Committee on Appropriations, urging them to continue funding the Nonprofit Security Grant Program under UASI and the State Homeland Security Grant Program to protect communities across America from terrorism.
