Congressman McCaul Seeks Veterans for 'Veterans History Project'

AUSTIN – In an effort to preserve the stories of our nation’s veterans, Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX 10) is collaborating with the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project, a nationwide effort to record first-hand accounts from the men and women who have served our country.

“Memorial Day is a time for our nation to pause and pay tribute to the men and women who have given their lives in the service of our country,” said Congressman McCaul. “This year, I want to make sure that veterans in my district have the opportunity to share their story so that these important historical accounts will be preserved for generations to come.”

The Veterans History Project is the largest oral history archive of veterans in the United States. The Library of Congress has overseen the project since 2000. Veterans may have served in any era. Interviews will last approximately 30 minutes.

Completed interviews will be added to the Veterans History Project's archives. Once the video is processed and housed in a preservation environment, the veteran's service history information will be available in an online database and the interview (or other materials) will be available to Congress and researchers who visit the Library of Congress.

Initial interviews will be conducted on the following days:

Austin – Tuesday, June 7

Brenham – Tuesday, June 14

Giddings – Wednesday, June 15

Tomball – Wednesday, June 15
