I founded the Childhood Cancer Caucus when I first entered Congress to give a voice to the over 15,000 children diagnosed with cancer each year and the hundreds of thousands of survivors who face a lifetime of medical challenges. Today’s passage of RACE is a great first step in providing these children access to the treatments they deserve. I believe it is incumbent upon each of us – especially those elected to serve – to do our part to rid this world of cancer, for the sake of my children and yours. As my good friend Sadie Keller - who is battling leukemia - says, "together we can make a difference."
On June 6, 1944, courageous Americans stormed the beaches of Normandy giving their lives in service of our country. My father was a bombardier on a B-17; his group, among others, were trained to lead the air campaign in advance of the D-Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. His patriotism and service in such a time of peril is one of things that has inspired me throughout my life. We pause today to remember those brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom.
The terrorist attack at a concert in Manchester is a horrific reminder of the growing threat facing the Western world. When peaceful citizens are brutally murdered simply because of their culture and lifestyle, the entire free world is attacked. Terrorism is an assault on humanity felt around the world, and the response, too, will be global. Read my op-ed by clicking the image.
2017 Inauguration Security Walk-ThroughI commend the efforts of the United States Secret Service, Department of Homeland Security, Capitol Hill Police, and local law enforcement who are working tirelessly to ensure a safe and successful Inauguration. My Committee and I are paying detailed attention to all of the necessary preparations for this historic event. Despite the intense terror threat our nation faces, I am confident that we will be able to conduct a seamless and peaceful transition of power in large part because of the hard work of the Department’s employees, and the Secret Service, and those on the front lines keeping our nation safe.
Over the last six months the Trump administration has made good on its promise to enhance border security and enforce our immigration laws. In the first half of 2017, illegal border crossings fell by an estimated 70%. It is very reassuring to know that President Obama’s reckless immigration policies are now over.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Michael McCaul (TX-10) announced that his office will be participating in the 2017 Congressional App Challenge.
Washington, D.C. – House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) released the following statement on the President's appointment of General John F. Kelly to serve as White House Chief of Staff:
The top homeland security Republican in the House unveiled a border security bill Friday that would codify President Donald Trump's border wall, boost resources for Border Patrol and authorize the National Guard and Defense Departme
Washington, D.C. – As the United States faces new and evolving threats to our national security, a strong, smart, multi-layered approach at our nation’s borders is required.
As Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee my top priorities are to address the al Qaeda-Hezbollah terrorist threat, border security, cyber security and fixing the Department of Homeland Security to ensure it is capable of carrying out its core mission of protecting the homeland. In addition, I am working to make the nation’s airport security system smarter and more efficient.
Being a Texan, border security is of the utmost importance to me. In November 2012, I authored the second edition of his report “A Line in the Sand: Confronting Crime, Violence and Terror at the Southwest Border”, which revealed the increased presence of Iran and Hezbollah in Latin America and their relationships with drug cartels that control smuggling routes into the United States.
I have also helped secure three Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Texas to provide law enforcement with better border surveillance and have worked towards identifying existing Department of Defense technologies that have proven successful in Iraq and Afghanistan, for use along the Southwest border without duplicating research and development, ultimately saving taxpayers money and making the equipment operational more quickly.
Cyber Security is also a very pressing matter in today's world. I served co-chair of the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ (CSIS) Commission on Cybersecurity for the 44th President, which presented cyber security recommendations to President Obama’s administration upon taking office in 2009. In 2012 I authored the Cyber Security Enhancement Act, which passed the House, and would help harden federal networks, improve coordination inside and outside of government, improve research and development as well as the quality of our cyber workforce. With a high concentration of high tech companies in the 10th Congressional district, I maintain a closerelationship with the high tech community from Austin to Washington to Silicon Valley and have worked to include industry in shaping cyber security policy in order to promote information sharing and protect critical infrastructure.
