McCaul Statement on President's Unilateral Changes to Cuba Policy

AUSTIN, TX –Today following President Obama's announcement of changes to U.S. policy toward Cuba, Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, made the following statement:

McCaul: "For decades, U.S. policy toward Havana has been designed to reduce hostilities and to support political freedom and human rights in Cuba. Once again, with the stroke of the pen, President Obama has upended this longstanding bipartisan policy toward one of the most oppressive regimes on the planet with very little to show in return. Like all Americans, I am glad Alan Gross is home with his family, but his release does not justify the political legitimization of the Castro regime. If the administration wants to change U.S. policy toward Cuba, it should come to Congress to seek support rather than act unilaterally."
