McCaul Pleased CHIPS for America Act Signed into Law

August 9, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Representative Michael McCaul (TX-10) issued the following statement after the president signed The CHIPS for America Act into law today.

"I wrote the CHIPS for America Act after President Trump's national security team came to me in 2020 recognizing the vulnerability of our dependence on foreign manufacturers and supply chains. Right now, Taiwan produces 90 percent of all advanced semiconductors chips, and the threat of a Communist China takeover of Taiwan is real. Just recently, CIA Director William Burns said, it's not a question of if Beijing will 'use force to control Taiwan, but how and when.' Semiconductors are the brains behind everything from your cell phone to the advanced weapons systems that keep our nation safe. That makes them an integral part of our daily life – and the backbone of America's national security. This legislation is a strategic investment in the nation's economic and national security, andI could not be prouder that my idea two years ago to secure the critical advanced semiconductor supply chain has now become law. This is a big win for Texas and for U.S. national security."
